We are a mutual benefit society which provides our members access to quality health care services while protecting them from financial loss due to illness or injury.
Our History
We were founded in 1996, when a group of physician teachers at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, started UHA. After some challenging start up years, our Associates' steadfast diligence resulted in a remarkable turn around. Since then we have grown to become Hawaii's third-largest commercial health insurer with approximately 40,000 members and over 2,000 participating providers statewide. We have been recognized consistently by Hawaii Business Magazine as one of the top 200 companies in Hawaii and in 2006 UHA was a finalist for the Pacific Business News Best in Business Award.
Our Vision and Values
Through our partnership with physicians and medical scientists, we envision ourselves as a force for continuously improving the quality of our members' health care.
We believe that the quality of our members' health care can be measured and improved and that it is our responsibility to do so. Guided by our physician leadership and our commitment to the ethical values of the medical profession, we work with our providers to identify areas that need improvement and develop and implement programs to assure that improvement takes place. This occurs while we strive to preserve and enhance a close and trusted relationship between our members, who are patients, and their physicians.
Our associates are our strength. It is they who have created an environment based on trust and respect and it is they who, working in teams, strive to understand and anticipate the needs and expectations of our customers whose satisfaction is our goal.
