UHA Selects New Prescription Drug Partner with Strong Hawaii Ties
(HONOLULU, October 1, 2007)--UHA, Hawaii's third-largest commercial health insurer, will offer expanded prescription drug services to its more than 40,000 members through a new partnership with RxAmerica, the company announced today. Services through RxAmerica will be available to members beginning October 1.
RxAmerica is a wholly owned subsidiary of Longs Drug Stores. UHA health plan members will benefit from Longs' longtime presence throughout the islands. "Longs' local presence means better service and more convenience for our members at no extra cost," said Max Botticelli MD, UHA Chief Executive Officer.
If UHA members want their prescription drugs mailed to them, they'll be shipped from Longs' mail-order facility on Oahu, resulting in faster delivery than if they were mailed from outside of Hawaii. Members also can order online through Longs Drugs' website, or order refills through a toll-free number. Of course, prescriptions can also be filled at any Longs Drugs pharmacy for the same cost as traditional mail-order plans.
UHA members will also soon be able to locate participating pharmacies, view prescription claims history, and calculate prescription drug co-payments through UHA's website.
Additionally, UHA members can take advantage of RxAmerica's local support provided by Longs Drugs representatives in Hawaii, as well as a wide selection of clinical programs and disease management services offered by Longs Drugs.
"This opportunity to work with UHA is a real honor, particularly since Longs Drugs has been a member of the community since 1954. RxAmerica has a reputation for providing quality care and excellent service. We look forward to serving UHA health plan members," said John Gardynik, President of RxAmerica.
"UHA is pleased that we can offer our members these expanded and quality services through a company with such strong ties to Hawaii," Dr. Botticelli said.
UHA members won't be limited to Longs Drugs locations though. The RxAmerica pharmacy network includes dozens of independent and chain pharmacies and stores where members can use their prescription drug benefits offered by UHA's health plans.
RxAmerica was founded in 1989 and provides prescription benefits for more than eight million people through 55,000 pharmacies nationwide.
Founded by a group of physicians in 1996, UHA is dedicated to providing access to quality health care services while protecting its members from financial loss due to illness or injury. UHA provides competitively priced medical, drug, and vision plans to more than 1,500 employers. With more than 40,000 members, UHA is the third-largest commercial health insurer in Hawaii.
